Explore the Work of Tom Seghi
From moody Midwestern landscapes to stoic fruit, Tom Seghi’s art has evolved across decades and styles. His collection spans four distinct genres: landscapes, abstract compositions, fruit and vegetable portraits and playful trompe-l’œil paintings of his own tools. Known for his command of color, form and realism, Seghi invites viewers into a world where everyday subjects are rendered with unexpected intensity and wit.
About the Artist
Born in 1942 and raised in Chicago, Tom Seghi was the first in his Italian-American Catholic family to attend college. Though he began studying architecture, a summer in Provincetown exposed him to abstract expressionism and shifted his focus to painting. After earning recognition at the Art Institute of Chicago, he began exhibiting in Vancouver.
In 1972, Seghi moved to Missouri to raise a family, teach at local universities and paint Midwestern landscapes. There, he also discovered a love for sailing, which eventually brought him to Miami in 1988. He embraced the region’s vibrant light and color, which inspired his shift toward abstraction and the hyper-realistic fruit paintings that became his signature. Seghi remained an artist, educator and passionate sailor throughout his life.
