About the Artist

Born in 1942 and raised in Chicago, Tom Seghi was the first in his Italian-American Catholic family to attend college. Though he began studying architecture, a summer in Provincetown exposed him to abstract expressionism and shifted his focus to painting. After earning recognition at the Art Institute of Chicago, he began exhibiting in Vancouver.

In 1972, Seghi moved to Missouri to raise a family, teach at local universities and paint Midwestern landscapes. There, he also discovered a love for sailing, which eventually brought him to Miami in 1988. He embraced the region’s vibrant light and color, which inspired his shift toward abstraction and the hyper-realistic fruit paintings that became his signature. Seghi remained an artist, educator and passionate sailor throughout his life.

“As an artist, I am totally fascinated by the act of painting and the mystical power it has on me. With each canvas I enter a new world of possibilities where I must bring my entire bag of knowledge and sensibilities in order to at least maintain this state of awareness.”
